I roosted about 15 birds yesterday and half of them were jakes and gobblers. Went out this morning to video tape my cousin but no luck so far. we had turkeys all around us but they didnt gobble much. maybe they were gobbled out from the storm yesterday. They henned up right off the roost and couldnt get them to come in. I got into a yelping match with a hen but she wouldnt budge. saw 2 big gobblers way way off but wasnt able to get any video. Going to go back out at 9 and try to get a gobbler without a hen. hope i get some footage.

Took a decent bird on opening day. 10 1/4 inch beard with weak 3/4 inch spurs. We got some awesome footage though. Picked him off his feet at thirty two yards and he didn't twitch again. Gotta love it.

Shot a nice bird on Monday morning. I roosted him on Sunday night, he had five hens with him. In the morning he gobbled one time at 5:40 and there was only one hen tree yelping, well she flew down first and with all the noise she was making I figured her for an old boss hen, so I tried to sound just like her, seemed to really upset her! She started my way, the other four hens hit the ground and followed her and the gobbler was last. She came into about 6 feet and was giving me the eyeball when he stepped out from behind some bruch, dropped out of strutt and gobbled at 35 yards. A load of Federal # 6's put him down! 23 lbs, 10.75 and the spurs were right around an inch.

I finally made it out for the first time this year. got set up and the birds were talking allot. thought i was set up good had some behind me and some in front of me. did a fly down and once again they lit up so a waited for a little bit and started to call they were answering every call and then it all started to die down like i figured it would this time of year. i called every once in while and finally i saw some movement in there he was(or they were) three jakes walked to 10 yards and stood there for abbout 20 minutes and then went abbout there buissiness. tempting but not what i am looking for i know there is a bigger one in the area. try again tomarrow.

I harvested my best bird ever this morning as far as beard length(s) go. Shot a triple bearder. His estimated lengths are 10, 9.5, and 2. Unfortunately as far as the contest goes he is weak on spurs. Will get pics up soon. The Hoyt,Easton, and Slick Trick combination proved deadly once again!

Way to go guys. Been having fun, except for Monday and Tuesday. Too hot! Nothing but jakes in shooting range so far. They are not talking back to me very much yet, although I had 2 going today.

Called one in for a youth hunter on the first day of mentor youth hunt. SCORED!! Couldn't make it out the actual first day. Yesterday called in three longbeards at 9 yards and my novice turkey hunter friend moved and the gig was up. Too boot the camera wasn't high enough to see the bird. At least we could have made fun of him....

Took out another hunter this morning and he was able to put his tag on a nice 2 year old. I needed that one because the guy I had with me yesterday missed a monster bird in a field with nothing in between us and the bird but air.

On Wed. I had 2 gobbling near the top of a ridge in the dark but they went the other way. I was back home by 8 AM and after changing shirts I headed out behind the house. I spotted a longbeard strutting and courting a hen out below a freshly seeded down oat field. He responded to my mouth call with a nice gobble. I had to move into the woods and trot 100 yards to get to my ambush spot. After crawling on my belly out into the field to set up the decoy, I got back between 2 round hay bales. A couple more calls on my Primos Freak slate call and the hen appearred from behind the hill. She walked up beside the decoy then started feeding in the planted field. It was 5 or 6 minutes before old tom's head popped up behind the decoy. It was kind of funny because I was breathing heavy and was worried I would spook the hen. She just contiuned pecking the ground and after a few more minutes he finally moved from behind the decoy to my left. I had the fiber optic Tru Glow 3 pin sights lined up on his head and I let him have it. When only the hen flew away I was pretty sure I got him. When I stood up I could see him laying there. Turned out it was 51 paces back to where I had been sitting. I use a Remington 870 express with a gobbling thunder extra full choke tume and 3 inch copper plated #5s from Remmington. That's 2 years in a row for that decoy and I'm sold on the accuracy of those sights in combination with the pattern of that choke tube.

I have been hunting this one bird for the last week. Finaly yesterday he had no hens with him and i just happend to set right under him on the roost. I had no idea he was there! and i did Not roost him the night before. I heard him spitting and drumming before he gobbled. He flew out and was on a mission to find a hen that must have been roosted away from me. I yelped once and he turned around gobbled and was headed my direction. Got the camera on him and hopefully the rest of the story will be on the next Web Show....

I'm starting to wonder if the people I hunt with are afraid to light the wick!! We have had birds on top of us for the last two weeks and nothing. From 10 yards to 45 yards and nobody will shoot!!! I've literally rolled hours of film and only have two kills on tape. I'm starting to feel like Marty Stouffer........"Observe the mating ritual of the eastern wild turkey. This magestic animal will no doubt die of old age!!!"

I had the bird I have been hunting all season at 40 yards on Tuesday Morning. I could just see the top of his fan over a little rise in front of me. I thought he was going to come to the right of me following a hen that had past, so I didn't make a sound. The next time I saw him he was traveling the opposite direction about 100 yards away. I wanted to get good footage of the kill, but looking back I should have just started cutting so he would come out of strut and raise his head and put the lead to him. shoulda, woulda, coulda. The three words to sum up my season so far. This bird is giving me fits.
