my 20111 hunting season all started back in june. i started a new job and was the low man on the ladder and wasnt going to get many days off to hunt. this new job included working many saturdays and not too many days off but sunday. i knew this going in but i could sacrafice some hunting for a b etter job to provide for my family. i knew rifle season was out of the question because those are the first days taken. so i set out to make the best of my situation and after blowing a great chance at a beautiful buck early on i was hoping to get another chance and that chance came this morning. i was able to take today off because only one guy was off today so i scheduled it a couple of weeks ago and was hoping for good weather well as we all know it wasnt the best day for weather but my hopes were high so off i went. I was in my stand in the rain at 6:45 am and thought this is way better than working. well after nearly 2 hours and no deer sighted i thought it cant hurt to try some rattling so i did. it wasnt 5 minutes later a nice 8 point was walking stiff legged in my direction. he closed to 20 yards broadside and i was set to come to full draw as i started to draw he looked in my direction i said oh crap and he went bac to walking the trail he was on took about 5 more steps and was around 12 yards and i came to full draw and grunted him to a stop. he stopped i centered my pinned and hit the realease. the shot was true and i was confident he was going down. i called a good friend who is off work for a knee injury and told him about the shot he said ill be over. he came over and after about a 150 yard track and a blood trail a blind man could follow we found him piled up closer to the parking spot than he had started(gotta love it when they do that). i used a 100 grain thunderhead and it did its job. this is my 4th buck in a row from this stand 2008 a late season flinter 7 pt, 2009 an october 20 archery 8 point, and in 2010 an opening day rifle 7 pt. i feel so fortunate to be able to take this buck and to be able to share it with my friends at Wildlifegamemasters. To top this story off my good friend who is on this site called me 5 minutes after i shot my buck telling me he had just shot one. it turned out our bucks were almost identical and were shot about 3 miles apart(as the crow flies) oh yah he was the other guy that was off work today(we work together) i couldnt htink of a more fitting end to my buck hunting for 2011. oh btw he was 15 in wide and an 8 pt

Great buck! And you always do a great job telling us the story after the hunt. Congrats. I am sure with your new job situation, you may have some input to the topic I am about to post.
