Getting my hip replaced in March, but Doctor says I'll be back in the woods by the opening day.  Might even get a second tag and my wife will be going out this year.

My 13 year old son shot his first tukey Saturday during the Youth Hunt. Had action right away. Four gobblers were coming in right off the roost. Must have busted us, because they shut up right in front of us. Couldn't keep Zack still. Everytime they gobbled, he'd look at me and move his gun in a different direction. Moved to a new location about 8:00. Have been seeing birds in this area. Had one answer, but couldn't get him too fired up. Moved a few times and was able to see 3 strutters and hens in the field below us. Set up again and really hammered on the Game Over diaphram call. Cutt and yelped real hard trying to get the hens fired up. Then silence. Nothing happened for about 15 minutes. I started gawking around and a hen pops up about 35 yards away. Then a gobbler. They get behind some tree tops and I whisper to Zack to slide his gun to the left. He did a great job lining up the gun. Then a second gobbler stepped out at 25  yards. I made a few warning putts, he stopped, and Zack did the rest!!     What a great day!!!     It's going to be hard to top that moment!

It had a 9 inch beard, 3/4 and 7/8 inch spurs and weighed 19 lbs. A good 2 year old bird. Photo can be seen in the Trophy Room.

Unfortunately, I did not get the shot on film. I had been taping the hunt, but turned off the camera during the lull in the action. Maybe it was a good thing he didn't come in gobbling up a storm. No time to get overly excited!

My nephew harvested a triple bearded gobbler on Saturday.  The beards were 9 3/4, 5 7/8 and 4 3/4.  The pics are in the trophy room for viewing.
